China has made another world record- World’s highest bridge
The world’s highest bridge has opened to traffic in China, connecting two provinces in the mountainous southwest and reducing travel times by as much as three-quarters, local authorities said Friday.
The Beipanjiang Bridge soars 565 metres (1,854 feet) above a river and connects the two mountainous provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou, the Guizhou provincial transport department said in a statement on its official website.
This picture taken on December 29, 2016 shows vehicles making their way through the Beipanjiang Bridge, near Bijie in southwest China’s Guizhou province.

The bridge cut travel times between Xuanwei in Yunnan to Shuicheng in Guizhou from more than four hours to around one, a truck driver surnamed Duan was quoted by the official news agency Xinhua as saying after the bridge opened Thursday.
It was “very convenient for people who want to travel between these two places”, he added.
The 1,341-metre span cost over 1 billion yuan ($144 million) to build, according to local newspaper Guizhou Daily.
It overtook the Si Du River Bridge in the central province of Hubei to become the world’s highest bridge, a separate statement by the provincial transport department said earlier.
Several of the world’s highest bridges are in China, although the world’s tallest bridge — measured in terms of the height of its own structure, rather than the distance to the ground — remains France’s Millau viaduct at 343 metres.

Aliko Dangote drops from 51st richest man to 101 richest in the world
Abuja - Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has lost 32 per cent of his wealth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires’ Index.
Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Dangote lost $4.9bn or one-third of his wealth as the combined effect of falling oil prices and the June devaluation of the naira pushed him to No. 112 on the billionaires’ list with $10.4bn. Dangote was the world’s 46th-richest person in June.
Saudi Arabia’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud fell by $4.9bn, a 20 per cent drop, the report added.
Alwaleed had said in November that all of his stakes in public companies, including Citigroup Incorporated, were potentially for sale, reversing a longstanding policy that some of his most-prized shareholdings were “forever.”
Wealth creation in China turned negative for the first time since the inception of the Bloomberg index five years ago, with the country’s richest losing $11bn in 2016 amid a slump in the Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 index and a seven per cent decline for the yuan against the dollar.
Alibaba Group Holding Limited’s founder, Jack Ma, closed the year with $33.3bn, adding $3.6bn in 2016. He dropped in and out of his place as Asia’s richest person for the first four months of the year before claiming it for good in May, after Alibaba’s finance affiliate, which is laying the groundwork for an initial public offering expected as soon as next year, completed a record $4.5bn equity fundraising round.
News24 previously reported Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote group and Africa’s richest man, has dropped off the list of the 100 richest people in the world.
Dangote was the 51st richest man in the world as at March 2016, but he had dropped to 101

You are creating more problems for Chief James Ibori - Emmanuel Udaughan
Abuja – Former Governor of Delta, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, says those people going to London to see his predecessor, Chief James Ibori, and posting pictures and comments about him, are creating more problems for him.
Uduaghan, who stated this in a Facebook post on Tuesday, asked those involved to “stop it”.
Ibori, who was the governor of the oil-rich state between 1999 and 2007, was released from a United Kingdom prison on Wednesday after serving a concurrent13-year jail term for money laundering.
The Southwark Crown Court jailed him on April 17, 2012 after he pleaded guilty to a 10-count charge of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.
Since his release, friends, family member and political associates have been paying him visits in his London home, where he is under house arrest pending the conclusion of his asset confiscation case.
A video of one of such visits which has been trending on social media shows a Senator from the state, Peter Nwaoboshi, boasting about how Ibori “installed” governors and lawmakers from prison.
The video immediately drew public criticisms with many already calling for Ibori’s extradition and further prosecution in Nigeria.
Uduaghan wrote: “For those going to London to see Chief James Ibori and posting pictures and making comments, please stop it.
“We appreciate your love for him but you can go quietly without the unnecessary publicity.
“You are creating more problems for him than you can ever imagine.
“Nigeria is a complex country and you must understand and respect people’s sensibilities.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Uduaghan, who is Ibori’s first cousin, is largely blamed by many for the latter’s travails.

Fayose bribed Pastor Adeboye with a huge amount of money – APC
Ado Ekiti - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has frowned at the comment made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Enoch Adeboye commending Gov Ayodele Fayose, for what he called the governor’s courage and willingness to defend his people and the cause of the common man in the country.
The party said it was alarmed that a cleric of Adeboye’s standing could praise Governor Fayose for his persistent insults and abuses on President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that the cleric should be seen as speaking for himself and his comment must not be seen as representing that of the entire members of the RCCG.
In a release issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday and signed by the state chairman of the party, Jide Awe, the party alleged that Fayose could have bribed Adeboye with huge amount of money to get such endorsement, which is not being circulated.
Pastor Adeboye had during his tour of the country to the state as part of the church’s annual ‘Let’s Go A Fishing” programme, said to Fayose: “We thank God for your courage, for your boldness, we thank God for your being willing to take risks so that your people can be protected. You have been a governor who knows when to say enough is enough in defence of his people.
And I’m sure you know what I’m talking about and I am sure the world knows. I don’t want to say more than that but be assured that we are praying for you and you will succeed in Jesus name.”
Awe said Governor Fayose is a man that can bribe even angel of God to endorse the devil, warning Adeboye to avoid what will make the people of Ekiti rise against him.
The APC said that Adeboye even chose this period of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ to embark on praise singing of a character like Mr. Fayose is to say the least, preposterous.
The party chairman called on members of the RCCG, especially families of the founder, Josiah Akindayomi, to call Adeboye to order before he destroys the church with his involvement in politics.
He said the pastor must not be allowed to destroy the legacies of the founder of the Redeemed Church and the entire members of the church.
Awe said Adeboye should be reminded that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is a staunch member of the RCCG and what is expected of the cleric was support for members of his church, not praise singing of Fayose.”
Father strangles 14-year-old son, attempts to poison daughter
Abuja - In an extreme case of hatred for an ex-spouse, 44-year-old Sunday Ibrahim, is alleged to have strangled his 14-year-old son, Musa Ibrahim, to spite his ex-wife, following the dissolution of the couple’s marriage by a court in Abuja.
The abominable act happened in Kabusa village in Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, reports Daily Post.
After killing the son, Ibrahim ran to the house of his uncle, Haruna Isah, who resides at Airport road, Abuja, to confess that he had killed Musa.
Shocked to the marrow, Isah promptly reported the matter at the Ido Police Station; he also arrested Ibrahim and handed him over to the Apo Police Station, from where the case was subsequently transferred to the homicide section of the FCT Criminal Investigation Department of the police command.
When detectives took Ibrahim back to his residence to conduct a search, they discovered the sandals of the deceased teenager in the father’s room.
It was further gathered that Ibrahim had previously attempted to kill his 17-year-old daughter, Maimuna Ibrahim, by serving her poisoned food. Fortunately, her sixth sense saved her and she did not eat the food. Ibrahim was said to have quickly thrown the poisoned food away.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Mustapha, confirmed the incident, saying the court granted the ex-wife custody of the couple’s children

I hope other governors will stand for their people like Fayose – Pastor Adeboye
Ado-Ekiti-The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has admonished state governors in the country to emulate their Ekiti State counterpart, Mr Ayodele Fayose, in standing up for and protecting the interest of their people.
He stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday at the palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe Aladesanmi 111.
The renowned cleric, visited the monarch before attending a crusade at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, described Governor Fayose as a great defender of his people and their cause.
Adeboye also commended Fayose for taking great risks to defend and protect the interests of his people.
”Your Excellency, we thank God for your life, courage, boldness and being willing to take the risk so that your people can be protected and I know you know what I am talking about.
You can be sure that we are praying for you and you will succeed. I hope other governors will stand for their people like you and defend their people and say enough is enough,” Adeboye said.
Adeboye, who prayed for the restoration of the lost glory of Ekiti, also commended Oba Adejugbe for leading his people in the way of the Lord.
Earlier, Governor Fayose said Nigerians appreciate the efforts of Adeboye at taking the gospel round the world.
”We know that it is at this time of the year that you go round and we pray that God strengthens you.
Your visit is annually and when a man of God passes by, we want to take that advantage for him to bless us. We appreciate your efforts at taking the gospel round the world,” he said.
Oba Adejugbe also described Adeboye’s visit as a blessing to the palace, and the people of the state in general.
Pastor Adeboye later held a revival at the stadium and later visited Ilawe and Ogotun-Ekiti.

The Real Joy of Christmas
Christmas is a glorious season of the year, It is also a busy time for most of us. It is also a period that so many people place emphasis on the wrong things.
The real joy of Christmas comes not in the hurrying and scurrying to acquire more, but in giving as Christ gave Himself. Our celebration of Christmas should be a reflection of love and selflessness. This is the time to feel more kindly one to another; to reach out in love to help those less privileged.
As you celebrate the joy of Christmas, know that Jesus is the reason for the season. His birth is a display of God's love for humanity. Give somebody a reason to also celebrate this season by introducing them to Jesus and doing something worthwhile for them.

Christmas: A Day Worth Rejoicing and Celebrating
There is no way you can fully appreciate what today represents and not have cause to rejoice and celebrate! Today is a day worth rejoicing and celebrating because it is a day to celebrate God's extraordinary and unimaginable love for you. It is a day that guarantees the restoration of hope and celebration for the rest of our lives.
Christmas represents the day our Saviour was born. It is the day our eternal hope was born; A day that so many prophets in the old testament prophesied and rejoiced about. In John 8:56 Jesus said, your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Abraham saw this day in the spirit and rejoiced. You should be even more exceedingly glad because you not only see this day in the spirit, you actually experience it your life. This very Christ that the whole world celebrates today is our lord and Saviour and He lives in us by His spirit.
We were separated from God and without hope, but through Jesus, we have been reconciled back to God. He sacrified all of His glory in Heaven just to come and identify with us. He did it so that He could save us and exalt us again to God's level. Rejoice and celebrate today for this and all that Christ's birth means to you.
Praise God and rejoice for the great and extraordinary love He showed you by sending Jesus as your Saviour.

A Cameroonian steward murders his boss just few months before her wedding
LAGOS—A Cameroonian steward, Joel Ludguo, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his boss to death over unpaid salary at Park View Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Temidayo Adeleke, as gathered, just returned from the United States of America, USA, where she was schooling, in preparation for her wedding next February.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, a cleaner who lived with the victim on Prince Tayo Adesanya Street, demanded part payment of his December salary on Tuesday afternoon.
However, Adeleke appealed to him to wait till the next day, explaining that she had no naira notes with her. Ludguo insisted on remaining in the sitting room with his boss until she provides the money.
He was then said to have charged into the kitchen, took out a kitchen knife with which he allegedly stabbed Adeleke on the chest.
Her shout for help alerted other domestic workers. It was gathered that Ludguo attempted to flee, but was held by another help, who thereafter contacted policemen from the Ikoyi Division, subsequent upon which he was arrested.
When Vanguard visited the deceased’s home yesterday, some of her relatives were seen mourning the death of the 33-year-old lady, who they described as amiable.
What the suspect told colleagues
One of the domestic workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “We would have all been in trouble if he had escaped.
“He informed us on Monday that he was going to demand for N15,000, as part of his December salary from madam, as he wanted to travel to his home town. We are paid N27,000 per month.
“Nobody knew what transpired inside. The only thing we heard was madam’s shout for help, which prompted the guard and her driver to rush in.”
One of late Adeleke’s sisters, told journalists “I appreciate your coming. The incident is shocking. The family is sad and grieved and needs privacy at this time. We want to be accorded that respect please.”
He’s a drug addict—Guard
One of the estate guards, who gave his name as Abbah, revealed that the suspect was taking hard drugs.
He said: “That boy is wicked and usually acts under the influence of hard drugs. We have always cautioned him against his misbehaviour. It is unfortunate it resulted in the death of his madam, who was so kind to them all.”
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, said that the victim was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
She added that the suspect had been transfered to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, SCIID, Yaba, for further investigation.
What a shocking news just before Christmas and new year...

Bodies of 6 siblings to be exhumed in Anambra
The sleepy community of Ekwulumilli in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the delay in releasing the autopsy report, by the state police command barely six months after the mysterious death of six children of the same parents in the area.
The absence of the police autopsy report, according to the elders of the community, might equally lead to the exhumation of the six dead bodies for more investigations to be carried out.
Facts had emerged recently that homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Awka, collected the samples of the tissues of the deceased persons before their burial.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Nkiruka Nwode, told newsmen on phone that she was not in a position to give detailed information regarding the situation, but some elders of the community, who spoke on the matter, confirmed that they were yet to see the police autopsy result and, therefore, might request for the exhumation of the bodies

The real reason i retired from football - Jayjay Okocha
Austin Jay Jay Okocha has attributed his decision to retire early from active football to lack of enough playing time.
The ex-Nigeria international who dazzled the footballing world with his sizzling skills and breathtaking performances made the shock decision to leave the game in 2008. According to the Olympic Gold medallist, reduced minutes on the pitch of play triggered his exile from the round leather game, at the age of 34.
“I must confess that not getting a lot of playing time was the main reason why I retired from playing at a very young age,” Okocha told media men at a press conference organised by Star Times.
“I believe that it is not worth it to train from Monday to Friday just to have 20 minutes on the pitch or sit on the bench on Saturday. I am very competitive.”
The midfielder who last represented Nigeria in 2006, appeared for the Super Eagles 75 times with 14 goals to his name.

Demonstrators stone El-Rufai’s convoy in Kaduna
KADUNA— A 24-hour curfew was, yesterday, imposed on Zangon-Kataf, Kaura and Jema’a Local Government areas of Kaduna State.
This came as Governor Nasir el-Rufai entourage was pelted with stones in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area and some of the vehicles damaged after addressing demonstrators immediately after he chaired Kaduna State Security Council meeting in the area.
Gov. Nasir-El-Rufai
The Council said it imposed the curfew based on intelligence report about risks to lives and properties in the affected areas.
Spokesman to Governor el-Rufai’s, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement after the emergency Council meeting. He disclosed that the Council also reaffirmed the ban on all processions and unlawful assembly throughout the state.
The statement said that security agencies had also been empowered to arrest and prosecute any individual or groups that violated the orders.
Furthermore, the Council urged security operatives to ensure best practices in enforcing the directives.
Immediately after the meeting, the governor addressed some demonstrators. However, his entourage was pelted with stones and some of the vehicles damaged, while the official residence of the local government chairman, Dr. Bege Katuka was set ablaze.
The governor’s spokesman, Aruwan, disclosed in an official statement that el-Rufai considered the events as part of the burden of leadership.
He added that the governor pleaded that there must be no reaction to the incident other than a continued commitment to restore peace and harmony.
The statement quoted the governor as saying “in the name of God, I am begging you. No one should take the law into his or her hand over what happened in Kafanchan.
“Although it is unfortunate, we must rise above induced prejudice and hatred.”

Deeper Life Completes Its Headquarters Church In Lagos, Now 4th Largest Church In The World
The 30,000 capacity church project had gone on for about 13 years managed by Cappa and D’alberto.
The project which was initially scheduled to last 8 years had been billed for completion in 2012 but the church suffered some setbacks. It is now the 4th largest completed church auditorium in the world.
Nigeria presently has a plethora of mega church buildings under construction, all of which rank among the largest in the world.
The MFM Temple with a capacity of 500,000, Faith Theatre which is 100,000, Salvation Ministries-90,000, The Great Tabernacle of The Apostolic Faith Mission-75,000 and The Lords Garden of Dunamis International Christian Centre-70,000 are all under construction and are billed to be the five largest auditoria in the world in that order when completed.
Deeper Life Church has built numerous secondary schools, a newly completed university recently approved and also constructing a 130,000 capacity conference centre (Deeper Life Conference Centre) at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The pastor it was gathered usually referred complicated cases to the nurse, whose clinic – El Shaddai Hospital – is located a few metres away from the church.
The bubble burst when the aunty of a girl, Eunice Ede, who gave birth in the church took the baby away.
This annoyed the pastor who reported the matter to the police .
The pastor was alleged to have accused Eunice’s aunty of stealing a baby from her church after she kicked against the decision of the pastor to collect the baby from her sister.
During investigation, it was later discovered that the pastor was actually selling the babies delivered in her church.
However, the pastor, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, refuted the allegation, saying she used the church as a maternity home to assist her pregnant church members for a token.
She said, “I have been a pastor for 13 years. I only assisted my church members during childbirth. I take delivery of 13 to 15 babies every year and I have handled over 60 cases so far. I don’t sell the babies.
PDP Crisis: Sheriff meets ex-Chair Bamanga Tukur
Abuja—Chairman of a faction of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and a former chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday met behind closed doors to discuss the leadership crisis in the party.Though none of the leaders of the party was ready to speak on the reason for their meeting, both leaders said the interest of the party was the reason for their meeting.
Bamanga Tukur, who spoke briefly with journalists after the meeting, said Sheriff came to visit him as an elder statesman and leader of the party.
“To me, it is my son here to salute me. I am an elder statesman, I am for everybody, I am not partisan now. I said so when I reached 80 years.
‘’I am waiting for him to come and see me and he is in the party which I belong and one of which I formed, so it is good.’’
Speaking on the crisis in the party, Tukur said the solution laid in the party being returned to the people who remained its owners.
“The PDP, forever, will be, because if they follow the philosophy that established PDP, it will be great. what is our slogan? Power to the people, will it change? If democracy is about the people, however, you look at it, it is power of the people; it is the approach,” he said.
He dismissed the idea of mega party as mere talk, saying “it is democracy, people can say what they like but what they get is different.”

REVEALED: WHY RONALDO DOESN'T WEAR BLACK FOOTBALL BOOTS
Ever wondered how involved footballers are when it comes to designing the boots they wear on the pitch?
In the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, the answer is very.
"It all starts with him," Max Blau, the global vice-president for Nike Football Footwear who works closely with the 31-year-old, told Goal . "I think he's amazing, but he's the first to say 'I can improve'. He says he can get better and will do his part, but he needs us to do ours too.
"That puts a lot of pressure on us. We have to come up with something to help him. That's how we came up with the new Mercurial Superfly [the boots Ronaldo currently wears].
"Every player has their favourite colour, and it's been scientifically proven that the colour of the boots activates chemicals in the player's mind.

"When you feel better, you play better. The main reason of the colour is to give confidence. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't like to wear black boots because he says black looks slow and he wants to feel fast."
Blau believes that wearing the right footwear is essential, so much so that he considers himself to have played a big role in Ronaldo's success."I sometimes say that I've won a couple of Grand Slams, Champions Leagues and some World Cups," he added. "I believe that I share a piece of that success.
"The most interesting aspect of my work is the chance to strengthen human talents. The key is in the person, but the product also plays a big part.
"The same individual under the same conditions will have a better performance if he wears a better product."

Pregnant woman plots ex-lover’s kidnap for N100,000 ransom
LAGOS—For kidnapping a 23-year-old man, Idris Saheed, and demanding N100,000 ransom, a pregnant woman, her husband and their friend are currently in police net in Lagos.
The pregnant woman, Eniola Kareem, 21; her husband, Paul Kareem, 23, and his friend, Ayoola Sodiq, 21, were arrested after the payment of N100,000 ransom into Paul’s account by the victim’s parents.
According to the woman, who claimed to be the brain behind the kidnap, “I called Idris to come to my house after I was told that he was coming to Mowe in Ogun State.
“I mooted the idea of kidnapping him because I know how rich his parents are. I told my husband about how we would kidnap him and tie him with a rope. I told him that when he comes to the house, I will do anything he wants.
“I planned the kidnap with my husband and his friend Sodiq and we demanded N100,000 from his parents before we released him.”
On his part, Paul said: “I planned it with my wife. I met her in a club, where I dance and we started dating. The person we kidnapped told my wife that he was coming to the house, thinking she was still single and that was what prompted the kidnap.
“We did not harm him or use any ammunition; it was a docile operation. The boy is gentle and cooperated with us.
“My wife told me that the boy is from a very wealthy home and that his father is a multi-millionaire, but we only requested for N100,000 and we were paid three days later.
“This is the first time we planned kidnapping. We are not kidnappers and we have not done this before.”
Speaking, the third suspect, Ayoola Sodiq, said: “Paul is my friend. I met him at a club in Mowe Ibafo, where he dances. He introduced me to this business and told me how he was planning to kidnap the victim.
“His wife called the boy and when he came to the house, they pounced on him and told him to sit on the floor. They then called his parents and informed them of the kidnap, demanding that they pay N100,000 to her husband’s account.
“I was given N30,000, while Paul took N40,000 and gave N30,000 to his wife. Police tracked and arrested me after they had arrested Paul and his pregnant wife.”

Buhari to drop ten ministers
ABUJA—STRONG indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari may drop no fewer than 10 cabinet ministers, while some would be asked to swap portfolios at the turn of the new year.
The decision to reshuffle the cabinet is coming on the heels of indication that the Presidency has tapped leaders of the Senate to secure prompt and less rancorous screening process.
Already, two vacancies are existing in the ministerial portfolio, following the death of Barrister James Ocholi, the late Minister of State for Labour and Employment in March and the exit last week of the Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed.
The Environment Minister is leaving the present administration to take up the post of Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
Sources close to the Presidency and the National Assembly said yesterday in Abuja that the Presidency was wary of a continuation of recent bashing from the Senate, a situation that had seen a number of nominees dropped during confirmation.
Sources also said that the administration has been inundated with reports that some Ministers are wrongly placed when the appointments were made in 2015 while some others have been said to have shown lack of capacity in the areas of operation.
According to the source, two factors were being joggled to come to a conclusion on who should go or remain in the cabinet, adding that the Ministers that would soon leave the cabinet are to cut across the geopolitical zones, an indication that the new names soon to make their ways into the senate will also come from the different zones.
A source said that some rubbing of minds between the Presidency and the Senate has taken place over the issue and that both the Senate and the Presidency have pledged to work for the interest of the nation.
In recent weeks, some of the decisions of the Senate were said to have taken the Presidency by surprise, a situation that was said to have forced the rapprochement.
Just last week, the Senate dropped the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu who was nominated for confirmation as substantive Chairman of the Commission.

RONALDO HAT-TRICK RESCUES LOS BLANCOS TO WINNING THE CWC
Cristiano Ronaldo rose to Real Madrid's rescue with a hat-trick to fire them past Kashima Antlers 4-2 after extra time in the final to clinch the 2016 Club World Cup title on Saturday.
The writing looked on the wall when the European champions took the lead against the J.League title winners - the first Japanese club to appear in the last two - as Karim Benzema opened the scoring.
However, Antlers struck back twice through Gaku Shibasaki, who volleyed in the equaliser before the break before showing fantastic skill to put his side ahead in the 52nd minute.
Zinedine Zidane's men found a way back through Ronaldo's penalty on the hour mark, though, after Shuto Yamamoto scythed down Lucas Vazquez in the box.
And it was the newly-crowned Ballon d'Or winner's decisive double in extra time that finally broke all resistance and be crowned world champions for the second time in three years.
The trophy is Madrid's second Club World Cup success and the fifth time they have been crowned world champions, with head coach Zinedine Zidane celebrating his third trophy of the calendar year.
Kashima had won three matches en route to the final and they produced a superb performance, testing Madrid to the limit in front of a passionate crowd.
Kashima captain Mitsuo Ogasawara fired just over with a blistering effort as the J.League champions attempted to draw level, although Sogahata soon had to get down sharply to save Benzema's long-range drive.
The equaliser arrived a minute before half-time when Shoma Doi crossed from the left to find Shibasaki, who forced his way past Raphael Varane in the penalty area and powered a finish into the bottom corner.
Incredibly, Kashima moved in front after 52 minutes when Sergio Ramos' poor clearance only travelled as far as Shibasaki. The midfielder escaped the attention of three Madrid players and fired a left-footed shot past Keylor Navas from 20 yards.
That rallied Madrid and Zidane's men equalised from the penalty spot after a combination of Shibasaki and Yamamoto brought down Vazquez, with Ronaldo firing into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Madrid were seeking a winner and Ronaldo had a shot saved by Sogahata, while Ramos lashed an attempt over from the resulting corner.
Marcelo was the next to be denied by Sogahata, while Yasushi Endo briefly stemmed the flow of attacks by forcing Navas into action at the other end.
But Ronaldo had a goal ruled out for offside after Benzema's shot had been parried by the Kashima keeper, before the Portugal international headed Vazquez's cross over.
Ronaldo squandered another chance when he failed to beat Sogahata having been sent through on goal by Benzema, and the Frenchman headed off target from close range.
A thrilling contest moved towards extra time after Madrid survived three late scares, with Navas having to save from Fabricio and Mu Kanazaki, while Ramos avoided a second yellow card for a last-minute foul.
Ronaldo struck twice in extra-time, first firing in a left-footed finish after 98 minutes having broken the offside trap to latch on to Benzema's pass.
Yuma Suzuki headed against the crossbar for Kashima as an extraordinary match continued to hang in the balance until Ronaldo sealed the trophy by collecting Toni Kroos' scuffed shot and powerfully striking into the roof of the net.
IWOBI: ARSENAL TOOK FOOT OFF THE GAS
Arsenal took their foot off the gas against Manchester City and they were punished for it, Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has revealed.
Arsene Wenger’s men bowed 2-1 to fellow title challengers on Sunday, despite taking the lead at the Etihad Stadium.
The Gunners took the lead after five minutes through Theo Walcott, but the hosts clawed back to secure maximum points in the second half courtesy of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling’s strikes.
“I guess you could say we took our foot off the gas,” Iwobi told club website.
“Man City took advantage very well in the second half. We were up against a tough side, we were just unfortunate to not keep the win.
“We started off very well but we weren’t able to keep it up in the second half and we were very unfortunate.”
Despite the defeat that saw them drop to fourth on the log, the forward is confident that the Emirates Stadium giants can bounce back to challenge for the English topflight diadem.
“We’re gonna keep on going, fight until the end and see where we go,” he continued.
“We’ll just have to continue how we were playing at the start of the season.
“We just have to continue the way we were playing at the start of the season. We just have to get that back and kick on now and prepare well for the next game.”
PDP accuses APC of plotting to burn Edo INEC office
Edo - The national leadership of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday alleged that the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress was planning to burn the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.
Spokesperson for the Makarfi-led PDP, Dayo Adeyeye, who stated this in a statement, said the party was reliably informed that some APC members were planning to destroy the documents used for the September 28 governorship election in the state.
Adeyeye said the revelations that allegedly emanated from the office of INEC jolted the APC representatives.
He said, “At the INEC office on Wednesday, the APC representatives demonstrated readiness to carry out their threat by assaulting the INEC personnel in the presence of some of our members and other people, who saved the situation.
“It is hopeless for members of a political party that claims to have won the election to resort to an unruly aggression in such an exercise.”
However, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, denied the allegation.
He said, “This is not an issue to trade words with the PDP about. It is not everything we should play politics with.
“If they have any evidence about any person trying to commit arson, which by our laws is a crime, they should report such a person to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. They will be helping to prevent a crime from being committed. It is not appropriate to make wild allegations all in the name of politics.”

MMM will resume in January, Founder assures participants …Accused Nigerian journalists of causing panic
BENIN CITY – The founder of a popular ponzi scheme in Nigeria, the Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM), Sergey Mavrodi, has given subscribers of the scheme assurance that the scheme, popularly called MMM will resume in January even as he accused the Nigerian journalists and media for causing unnecessary panic and tension among MMM participants in Nigeria.
In a message posted on its website, Sergey Mavrodi said that all the reports so far by the Nigerian media about the collapsed of the scheme are not only provocative, but also baseless as the reporters of these stories do not have any real information about what happens in the system.
While assuring its subscribers that the MMM will resume in January, the MMM founder appealed to the Nigerian journalists to leave the scheme alone.
The MMM founder statement read:
Dear journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts”!
Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity. Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?
In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and “analyses” (I said “worthless” because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: “MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..” etc. Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all?
So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that. It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.
Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!

200,000 Jobs: Edo Govt Commences Registration of Unemployed Youths – Shaibu
BENIN CITY – In fulfillment of the electioneering campaign of Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu to create employment for 200,000 jobs for youths in the state within the first four years in office, Edo State Government has called on youths to commence registration for the process of employment.
Speaking at the women empowerment programme organized by the member representing Akoko Edo Constituency II in the state House of Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Agbaje at Igarra, Thursday, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu said the state government is poised to fulfill the electioneering promises and has therefore commenced the process of registration of youths for employment.
He said, “Edo State Government under the able leadership of my boss, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, we have decided in line with our electioneering promises, the promise we made before election, that we would create about 200, 000 jobs, that we have started it. The youths consist of both young men and young women who do not have jobs. Those who have graduated from school, those who have completed secondary education but could not continue, those who learned different trades and have acquired technical skills, we need all their names. Those who have no jobs should submit their names to their ward chairmen who would in turn submit the names to the Honourable member representing you in the House of Assembly, and the Honourable member will hand the names over to me, and I will give the names to the Governor. By the grace of God, this is the beginning of the creation of 200,000 jobs. “This is the era of teaching people how to fish, how to work and not teaching how to give you fish. The Governor has said I should tell the youths to drop their names with their ward chairmen or if it is the women leaders they see. What is important is that they drop their names and phone numbers. We will get that data and you will hear from us. When the time comes, we will call you directly for the jobs. Please tell all our boys and all our girls who are ready to work.”
Rt. Hon Shaibu said the people should continue to pray for the government, “The Governor needs your prayers; we need your prayers to succeed because without prayers, all those good things we want to do will not be possible. I want to assure you that the good work former Governor Adams Oshiomhole has done, the foundation that he has laid, we have already started building on it. By the grace of God, we will take Edo State to the next level.”
The Deputy Governor commended Hon. Agbaje for his initiative, “What the Honourable has done today indicates that he is has given you a hook to fish. When you fish, you will sell the fish and make money, and when you make money, you won’t have to beg anyone for money.”
Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu said, “Akoko Edo, are you not blessed? We have appointed only four, and out of that four, two are from Akoko Edo. So, are you not blessed?”
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Deputy Governor said, “The Honourable has given you money to trade because he wants life to be better for you. This is a seed which can only grow if you plant it. This money is not meant for you to buy rice for Christmas. They said you should use the money to do business. If you use the money to do business as a seed, the seed will grow. So, I plead with you to sow this seed into your business so that it will grow, and by the grace of God it will grow. Our number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria will not import rice again, and we won’t even import clothing materials again. The only way to sustain that self-sufficiency is through something like what the Honourable has done today.”
Speaking earlier, the donor and member representing Akoko Edo Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Agbaje said he has come to help the women in line with his electioneering
He said
He said, “I have come up with this initiative in line with my campaign promises to create an opportunity for our women to be able to grow their small businesses which will provide support for the family as well as create wealth if diligently managed. In pursuit of the above, I have sourced and made available the sum of N2.5m to be granted to ten women from each of the five wards of Constituency II totaling 50 beneficiaries. Each beneficiary will be able to access the sum of N50,000.00 to be paid in ten months at equal installment, interest free.”
According to Hon Agbaje, “The present reality of our economic lives today calls for the philosophy of self-help which I considered as essential bedrock of our survival, both as an individual and as nation.”
Hon Emmanuel Agbaje also reel out the several constituency projects he has executed for the people in his constituency.
He conveyed his best wishes to Governor Godwin Obaseki, “Kindly also convey our total support and best wishes to the new Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki. May you continue to take Edo to the next level.”
Among those present at the ceremony are the Chief of Staff, Edo State Governrment Mr. Taiwo Akerele, member representing Akoko Edo Constituency I, Chief Adjoto Kabiru, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. John Mayaki, and traditional rulers across Akoko Edo local government area.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of empowerment cheques by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu to the 50 beneficiaries.

‘My husband impregnated my sister twice’
Lagos - A 55-year-old trader, Saidat Abu, on Thursday told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos that her husband was a flirt who impregnated her younger sister on two occasions.
She said this while responding to a suit filed by her husband, Momodu, alleging threat to his life by his wife.
Saidat, who alleged that her husband did not only commit adultery but incest, said:
“My husband was having an affair with my sister, he impregnated her and aborted the pregnancy on two occasions.
“I decided not to fight him in order to save my marriage.”
The mother of two also described her husband as a wicked and callous man.
“My husband took me to the hospital and connived with the doctor to remove my womb so that I will not be pregnant again.
“After destroying my womb, he is now telling me that he wants to marry another woman so that he can have a son that will inherit his property.
“He also told me he wants to sell our house so that he can settle our daughters and rent an apartment for me before he moves on with his life,” she said.
She, however, begged the court not to grant her husband’s request, saying she was still in love with him.
“Who will marry me now after my husband has destroyed my womb? Please do not grant his request,” she said.
Her husband, a 60-year-old businessman, had approached the court to end his 33-year-old marriage over his wife’s alleged fetish act.
“My wife is fetish; I came back from work one day and discovered a portion in my compound was cemented.
“I was curious to know what was buried in the ground, so I called my people and we dug the ground and saw a charm buried there.
“My wife wanted to kill me so that she can inherit my property,” he said.
The petitioner presented as evidence pictures of the buried charm.
Momodu also said that his wife does not cook or wash his clothes.
“My wife cannot do any house chore; I am married but living like a single man, I can no longer tolerate her,” he said.
He further accused his wife of inscribing “This house is not for sale” on the wall of his house without his consent.
The petitioner urged the court to terminate the marriage, saying he was fed up.
The court’s president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the couple, adjourned the case till Feb. 7 for further hearing.
‘Tinubu will only leave APC if…’
Abuja - A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mohammed Lawal, says a national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, will only leave the party if President Muhammadu Buhari quits the ruling party, Punch reports.
Lawal, who was the Deputy Director, Coordination and Implementation of the APC Presidential Campaign Office in 2015, therefore, dismissed reports that there was friction between Tinubu and the President.
The APC chieftain, who is a member of the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, said Tinubu had benefitted hugely from the Buhari government, adding that there was no cause for disagreement between the ex-Lagos State governor and the President.
He said, “Tinubu is not complaining and he has benefitted from this government. People are complaining on behalf of Tinubu in order to drive a wedge between him and the President.
“Tinubu has said he has no plan to form any mega party and even the Chairman of the PDP’s Board of Trustees has said he hasn’t spoken to Tinubu in over three years but people just don’t want to accept the truth. For God’s sake, people should leave the man alone.
“Tinubu is going nowhere. He and Buhari are like Siamese twins and no one can separate them politically. Tinubu will only leave the APC if the President leaves the APC.”
Tinubu had earlier opened up on the alleged crisis and realignment of new political party ahead of 2019 general elections according to News24.
He debunked insinuation that he is aligning to form a new political party said: “In our Journey to national betterment, plans and policies will be made, then amended. Mistakes will occur and then corrected.
Mum delivered of baby with two heads
Two heads are better than one — so goes the popular saying.
But there are times when two heads are a big problem, such as with a new born baby delivered on Tuesday at a hospital in Ogudu on the outskirts of Lagos.
It has two heads with oxygen tube strapped on each, a neck, chest, two legs and two hands.
Doctors at Med-In Specialist Hospital, Osogbo Street, who took the delivery, said the baby was born around 6:30pm on Tuesday through an elective caesarean section. Its mother, surgeon and nurses entered the theatre prepared to take delivery of a set of twins as indicated by the various scans she underwent in the course of the pregnancy.
But what they saw were two heads sharing a body.

At the hospital yesterday, it was gathered that the baby was resuscitated and transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for advance care.
According to one of the nurses who was in the delivery room, they had prepared two cots for each of the twins but were shocked when they saw that they were conjoined.
“This is the first time I am seeing anything like this. I have watched it in movies but seeing it in real life was such an experience for me. Thankfully, the surgeon ensured that they survived.
“As I speak to you, the mother doesn’t know the condition of the babies. She still believes and expects to carry her twins. We haven’t told her yet. Only her husband was brought into the theatre to see his children and he was the one who went with the doctors to LUTH,” said the nurse.
In medical parlance, the condition is known as Parapagus. It is a rare form of partial twinning where there are two heads and two necks side by side on one torso.
Such cases are rampant in India and doctors say they cannot be separated since they have only one pair of arms and one pair of legs and one heart. This disorder is different from conjoined twins as the baby has only one set of internal organs. The extremely rare case is thought to be brought on during the early stages of pregnancy as a result of genetic mutation.
Med-In Hospital Manager Dare Moses said the baby was taken to LUTH so that tests can be conducted to ascertain if they share also vital organs like hearts and lungs.
He said: “There is need to find out if they share major organs together. They may have to be flown abroad for separation if they have separate hearts and other vital organs. It is possible for them to survive. I have seen cases of twins like this in movie surviving and living normal lives.
“Normally, when we have cases of pregnant woman expecting twins, we usually go for elective caesarean, which was what the mother opted for.
“But when the doctor was trying to extract one of the babies (first one), it got stuck and when he examined further, he discovered that there were two heads in one body. We are happy that the baby was delivered alive and placed on oxygen. Both heads were alive.
“It was really amazing. I am proud and thankful that we delivered the baby alive. Yes, several scans were done by the mother in the course of pregnancy at different places, but none discovered any abnormality. We are thankful that the operation was successful.”
According to a doctor, who refused to be named, the babies were meant to come as identical twins and must have shared the same sac and placenta.
She said: “Nobody can specifically say the reason for the condition. At different stages during pregnancies. Twins divide but these ones didn’t divide fully. We can’t really say if they have only two pairs of legs and hands, there’s a possibility the other pairs are inside. But we don’t know yet.
“There are so many things we can’t really determine physically. That’s why several scans would be conducted, including CT Scans, to know their exact condition and the best option.
“It is a situation that would be best managed abroad because it requires the putting together of a team of paediatric surgeons who must have the best facilities, which we do not have presently on Nigeria.
“We have good doctors but the materials are not there. Specialists in different fields would be working on them at the same time if they are to be separated. Chances of their survival in Nigeria are very poor giving the realities of our society.
“If they can’t be separated and are left to survive, people might ridicule them or see them as curses, which isn’t good. But in other climes, some conjoined twins have survived to adulthood and they are doing fine.
“You should also know that it would be very expensive to foot the bills, and it isn’t what any parent can handle alone. The government and good spirited individuals would have to assist them so that the kids stay alive. All we want is to
